Japan Antique Meiji Dollhouse Miniature Room Box & 50p Set Handcraft Accessories

Japan MiniWe’re delighted to be featuring one of the most beautifully made dollhouse sets that we’ve ever offered.

Japan antique Meiji dollhouse Miniature sets handcrafted with utmost detail and professional artistry, circa 1870-1910 Meiji Emperor Era. One miniature room and one group of approx 50 accessories are each inside custom designed handcrafted storage boxes too; each storage box is marked with characters that roughly translate into “Premium or Specially Made Toy Set”, with the name of the merchant Dai-maru.

It’s been suggested by a Japan scholar I consulted with that the quality is so Japan Mini 2unusually high that it is likely these were custom made only for a daughter of a noble family.

Condition is excellent and outstanding; it’s hard to show the detail that went into each and every section. Includes:

  • Room Box for a tatami or Japanese tea room perhaps. All wood, sliding shoji screen doors open to reveal the room itself. 3″ x 5″ x 2″. Hanging accessories attached to the back wall. This room is actually also in a custom box for storage and safety. One small piece of label residue on side of the outer box is shown in last photo; we did not try to remove it.
  • Set of 50 assorted loose accessories, ranging from most miniscule 1/8″ baskets and utensils (check out the whisk for tea and strainer) to the largest 2″ across piece that we believe is a charcoal stove. Includes bowls, cups, shovels, teapot, tiniest boxes with perfectly fitted little lids. Mixture of wood, metal, ceramic.  All are in a custom designed compartmentalized storage box lined in lambs wool, with a custom cover on top. I show some with a penny coin next to them for scale.
  • A few of the pieces likely fit into the charcoal stove.

These and many other dollhouse items available at our eBay Store Connectibles.

Here is a brief partial article about Hattie Carnegie from Wikipedia.

Hattie Carnegie designs are in the collection holdings of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; and at the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History in Boynton Beach, Florida.

Hattie Carnegie (15 March 1880 — 22 February 1956) was a fashion entrepreneur based in New York City from the 1920s to the 1960s. She was born in Vienna, Austria-Hungary as Henrietta Kanengeiser.

The second oldest of seven children, Hattie Carnegie’s father was an Austrian Jewish artist and tailor, thought to have introduced her to the world of fashion.

Carnegie, who emigrated with her family to the United States at the age of six in 1886, was known for her elegant couture collection and secondary ready-to-wear lines. Her company was revolutionary in the sense that it was one of the first to introduce ready-to-wear to the high-end market. She pioneered the ‘head-to-hem’ boutique concept that paved the way for the future success of Ralph Lauren in America. Her company discovered some of the most prominent American fashion designers of the twentieth century, such as Norman Norell, Pauline Trigère and James Galanos; for nearly a decade, the made-to-order department was headed by Pauline Fairfax Potter.

Hattie Carnegie was originally a milliner and owned a successful shop on East Tenth Street in New York named Carnegie – Ladies’ Hatter. Despite the fact she had never sewed a seam in her life and had no formal training, she swiftly opened a dress shop on the Upper West Side and finally in 1923, she opened the famous Hattie Carnegie boutique at 42 East 49th street, close to the current address of Saks Fifth Avenue. Her shop, at its peak, carried her own ‘Hattie Carnegie Couture’ collection, Paris couture imports from Chanel, Vionnet and Dior, a fur line, her several ready-to-wear lines under different names, a costume jewelry line, a cosmetic line and even a chocolate line. Her dress designs were a massive success and soon she had such clients as Joan Crawford and the Duchess of Windsor. Hattie Carnegie’s colorful clothing and ultra-chic costume jewelry, even today, are greatly sought after by fashion and jewelry collectors.

Carnegie enjoyed tremendous success throughout her career but the proudest moment came when she designed the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) uniform in 1950. They were adopted for wear on New Year’s Day 1951. On 1 June 1952, Hattie received the Congressional Medal of Freedom for the WAC uniform design and for her many other charitable and patriotic contributions. The WAC design was so timelessly elegant that it was still in use for women’s U.S. Army uniforms in 1968.

From Wikipedia on Stuart Weitzman:

Stuart Weitzman’s trademark use of unique materials (e.g., cork, vinyl, lucite, wallpaper, and 24-karat gold) and his attention to detail garnered him and his company a global following. His shoes are sold in over 70 countries.

In the late 1950s, Weitzman’s father, Seymour Weitzman, started a shoe factory in Haverhill, Massachusetts, called “Seymour Shoes” (also sold under the label: “Mr. Seymour”). Stuart began designing shoes for his father’s business in the early 1960s, when he was in his 20s.

Weitzman graduated from George W. Hewlett High School in 1958 and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1963. When Seymour died in 1965, Stuart took over the business with his older brother Warren. They sold the business to a company in Spain in 1972, but Stuart continued to design shoes for the company. In 1994, he bought back the business, but he continues to manufacture his shoe designs in Spain.

Since 2002, Weitzman has provided one-of-a-kind, “million dollar” shoes to an Oscar nominee to wear at the Oscars. For the 2007 Oscar ceremony, shoes were designed for and provided to Diablo Cody, who subsequently declined to wear them, stating that she was not aware of nor interested in the publicity attendant with wearing the shoes.
